Présentation / Introduction :
Tempei Nakamura is a Japanese composer, pianist and beatbox born in Kobe in 1980. He started learning piano at the age of 5 but he stopped when he entered junior high school. In 1995, Tempei’s house was demolished by the Great Hanshin Earthquake. He dropped out of high school and spent a period of time living by working at demolition yards and other physically demanding jobs.
At the age of 17, he decided to change his life and to pursue his dream of music. He entered a music specialty school (high school) and then studied at Osaka University of Arts where he graduated major of his promotion in the piano section. He then went abroad to study in New York with the aim to start an international carrier. He is currently residing alternatively in New York and Tokyo.
In 2010 he did his first solo recital at New York’s famous Carnegie Hall. And from the same year, he began to launch annual European tours, becoming a global performer.
Tempei Nakamura is a traveler and a musician. Each year, he goes around Europe with his camping car and plays the piano on the most famous and surprising places. In 2017, he travelled in all prefectures of Japan to perform everywhere, even in surprising but remarkable places such as the Pilgrimates Routes of Kumano Kodo, which are registered on the Unesco list. In 2018, he completed 100 live performances in half a year and in 2019-2020 he has been touring whole 43 European countries.
He dedicated his project "Rising Sun" (2012 - 2017) to the reconstruction of the Kobe region after the disaster of 1995, was honored by the Hyogo Prefecture Artists Society with the Award for the Advancement of the Arts in 2015.
